Curriculum meeting 9.04.18

Review Identity

What worked well?
  • Identity Art
  • TRS through the ages (school)
  • Literacy links well
  • Celebrating differences

Didn't get to:
  • Decades (60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's)
  • School Identity
  • Student led inquiry
  • groups students belonged to

What didn't work well and why:
  • Time: felt unit was too large
  • Extra things to fit into term, e.g. swimming
  • Too many decades to cover: prefer to cover 60's and now, compare and contrast the two.
  • Might have been better if each team were in charge of looking into one decade rather than people in random year levels.

If we didn't get to it and it didn't work well, we have to look at why we didn't get to it and how we can get around this to give our students more opportunities to learn through the curriculum concept via the reading, writing and maths.

Goals for next time:
  • Define map before unit, and define map at the end of the unit.
  • Vocabulary for learners. Make sure it is set for the learning context; if you're working with 5 year olds, you need to diversify the language you use so that they can understand it.
What are some of the skills, knowledge and understandings the children need to ensure we get to student led inquiry? Without getting to student led inquiry it will always be us telling students what they're learning rather than them following their interests.

Tying PBL into identity:
  • could have put in clothes from the 70's for students to play with which would have leant to discussion about the time period.

Shared Learning:
Children need to be able to explain what they’ve been doing, what they might do next.
Whittle questions down to questions that are most relevant to your class.

Questions for parents to ask 1 and 2
Please make a copy and make the changes you need to make for it to suit your students.
