Term 2 - Admin Notes in admin minutes The thing that uses your brain more than anything else is conversation. What is it that you do that engages more of the brain than anything else? Face to face interaction. They call the 1990s the decade of the brain - brain scanning technology. 300 years of information in one decade - “How brainy you are” has way less to do with your genes and more to do with the data you gather in first 1000 days of your life. If it was genetic - name a family that has more than one genius??? It’s generally a good thing to be the first born There are genes for hair colour, eye colour - there are no specific genes that are responsible for intelligence Scientists can predict your income by the amount of words your primary caregiver speaks to you in your first 1000 days A parent stay at home for the first year of life - biggest step towards resiliency factors Dyadic Relationships Not always possible to develop dyadic relations...

Curriculum meeting 9.04.18

Review Identity What worked well? Identity Art TRS through the ages (school) Literacy links well Celebrating differences Didn't get to: Decades (60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's) School Identity Student led inquiry groups students belonged to What didn't work well and why: Time: felt unit was too large Extra things to fit into term, e.g. swimming Too many decades to cover: prefer to cover 60's and now, compare and contrast the two. If we didn't get to it and it didn't work well, we have to look at why we didn't get to it and how we can get around this to give our students more opportunities to learn through the curriculum concept via the reading, writing and maths. Goals for next time: Define map before unit, and define map at the end of the unit. Vocabulary for lear...

Assessment for Learning - Staff Meeting

Assessment for Learning - Staff Meeting March 04, 2018 Using Assessment Data for Learning Questions to ask: (refer to handout from Helen) What understandings did you gain from that data about the learner?  Who did you share the information with?  How have you used the information so far?  What changed for the learner as a result of the information you gathered?  What can you try next?  What feedback will you give to the learner? What can you now write about the learner and their learning? What questions did others ask which challenged you? Jill - two boys are talking and not doing their learning... But  why  are they talking? Are they talking about the task you have set? Summarising Comments If you make a judgement that they're not interested ("they talk on the mat"), your observation needs to be what are they talking about on the mat? Are they talking about the topic at hand or clarifying somet...
